Two ways to clear your head on the water

A SUP board or a kayak? It is a question asked by everyone who loves water sports and being close to nature. Although these activities differ in technique and the muscles they engage, both offer numerous advantages, from deep relaxation to a substantial all-round workout. Before picking up a paddle, it is worth knowing which is better for a quick reset after work and which suits an all-day journey into the unknown.

Is a SUP board worth it?

Stand-up paddling is a sport in which you paddle while standing or sitting on a special, stable board. It is an exceptionally simple activity that anyone can start, regardless of age or fitness.

There are plenty of benefits. Above all, SUP is good for your health: paddling trains the whole body. Your core, legs and back work hardest, constantly stabilising your body on the water. A SUP board can also serve many purposes: intensive cardio training, a platform for yoga or even a sun lounger in the middle of a lake. You decide how to use it.

The equipment's portability is another considerable advantage. Most boards on the market are inflatable models. Once deflated, the whole set fits in a single backpack that you can easily put in the boot of even a small car.

Stability and distance: time for a kayak

Paddleboarding is a great lesson in mindfulness and working with your own body. But if you prefer full stability and a longer trip to testing your balance while standing, a kayak may be your choice.

Kayaking is a classic touring activity that has remained a favourite for years. In a kayak, your arms and back provide the main driving force. The seated position makes you feel more stable, allowing you to focus on your surroundings and rhythmic paddling without constantly keeping your balance in check.

The hybrid: a SUP board with a kayak seat

Interestingly, choosing comfort does not mean giving up the board. The boundary between these two worlds is becoming less distinct: modern SUP models allow a kayak seat to be attached quickly. You can therefore begin your route standing and simply sit down and continue in kayak mode when you feel tired or encounter stronger wind.

When choosing Movino models, you receive the necessary SUP board accessories in the set, including the seat. One example of versatile equipment is the Movino Garda, which brings both worlds together perfectly.

Why choose a board with a kayak function?

  • Efficiency over distance: an ideal choice for all-day trips when you need a change of position.
  • Confidence in all conditions: a lower centre of gravity makes you less affected by gusts of wind. The seated position then provides full control.
  • Comfortable relaxation: a great option when you simply want to rest and switch off. Sitting also makes your food supplies or camera easier to reach.

Whatever you choose, remember safety. On a SUP, always use a leash attached to your leg to prevent the board from drifting away if you fall. In either case, it is worth wearing a buoyancy aid, because water can be unpredictable even if you are a strong swimmer.
